6th Annual Virginia CIT Coalition Conference:
Every Shift, Every Day: Safety, Wellness & Resiliency

October 16 – 18, 2018

The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center

This multidisciplinary conference is sponsored by the Virginia CIT Coalition and the Virginia Departments of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and Criminal Justice Services. The two day conference offers opportunities for CIT programs to network, learn from each other and nationally recognized experts and return to their programs with information that will transform their systems of care. Conference check-in will begin at noon on Tuesday, October 16th at the Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center. Members of all Virginia CIT programs are encouraged to attend.

In addition to breakout workshops by Virginia CIT programs, keynote speakers will include the following:

  • Pete Earley, bestselling author and mental health advocate, and his son, Kevin Earley, Peer Support Specialist with Arlington County CSB, will discuss their family’s journey through the criminal justice and behavioral health systems and the road to recovery;
  • Sgt. (ret.) Nick Margiotta, Phoenix Police Department, will explain how CIT programs can be More Than Just Training through the figurative notion of a five-legged stool; and
  • Sgt. Chris Scallon, Norfolk Police Department, will present two keynote presentations. The first will examine the issue of wellness in the law enforcement profession and the second will address trauma informed policing
