What is CIT?

Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) programs bring together cross-functional

professionals with the goal of helping individuals experiencing crisis.

These collaborative localized initiatives are designed to improve the outcomes of law enforcement interactions with people experiencing mental health crises.

Through specialized training, CIT gives front-lines responders the tools they need to de-escalate crisis situations:

  • Recognize signs and symptoms of mental illness
  • Connect individuals with appropriate mental health resources
  • Reduce unnecessary arrests and use of force
